Some people call you a bit of a safety nut. Maybe it's true! Safety means everything to you. After all, what good is... well, anything if you're not alive and well to enjoy it?

That's why you've got your eye on the 2017 Ford Fusion.

This stalwart sedan just earned the highest award for accident-protection from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, a Top Safety Pick+. To achieve that rating, the Fusion had to prove its mettle in side impacts, moderate and small-overlap front crashes, roof strength, and have good seatbelts, airbags, and seats to keep you in place so the safety mechanisms can do their work.

The 2017 Fusion gets the plus-mark at the end of its Top Safety Pick for offering superior collision-prevention technology. It can automatically brake to avoid a crash at 12 and 25mph.

"The 2017 Ford Fusion is our most advanced car yet and we're proud to see it recognized by NHTSA and the IIHS for its safety performance too," said Bill Strickland, chief program engineer, Ford Motor Company. "Great new features include a pedestrian detection system and hands-free parallel and perpendicular parking capability, as well as existing optional lane-keeping assist and Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert."
