The Ford Focus RS RX came to the FIA World Rallycross Championship race in Hell, Norway, this past June to do business. And that’s just what Ford designed it to do.
Andreas Bakkerud not only won the final race. He also secured the win in all six of his qualifying heats. However, he couldn’t have done it without a steady, powerful companion. The Focus RS RX put on a dominating performance, and that’s saying something for its fifth competition ever.
How the Focus RS RX was Modified to Become a Champion
The 2016 Focus RS in dealerships like Ed Corley Ford Sales Inc. features a turbocharged 2.3-liter four cylinder engine that roars with a vengeance with 350 horsepower and sends 350 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels. A couple of its unique drive modes is the standard six-speed manual transmission and Ford Performance All-Wheel Drive with Dynamic Torque-Vectoring, where a large sum of the engine’s torque can be sent to either rear wheel, a strong perk to help the car better turn corners both on and off the track.
Ford then took these robust features and created a full-fledged racing machine. The Focus RS RX team amped the engine up to 600 horsepower, giving it the ability to cruise from zero to 60 mph in less than two seconds, while the drivetrain cranks out almost 640 pounds of torque. It may have taken years to prepare for, but when they had the green light, Ford and its partners built a powerful Focus RS RX in only nine months.
